Police have rounded up numerous Venezuelan males in connection with a violent robbery in Dallas—and the fugitives reportedly have ties to criminal gangs.
Four armed men allegedly assaulted and robbed a Dallas woman late last month. After hitting her with a pistol, the men threatened to cut off her fingers if she did not comply. Towards the end of the robbery, the woman was dragged to her bathroom and told to wait ten minutes before making any movement.
She called the police from her neighbor’s house after determining that she could move.
While the suspects eventually made off with $75,000 worth of jewelry, a Gucci bag, several rare coins, and her phone, one of them was identified via fingerprints on a wooden box.
Manuel Hernandez-Hernandez, 28, was charged with aggravated robbery. He is reportedly being held on a $200,000 bond and was just one of four known participants in the crime.
In the ensuing days, law enforcement rounded up the other suspects. Two of them—Yean Brayhan Torralba, 20, and Alberto Martinez Silva, 34—were already in custody by the time the leader of the group was tracked down.
Wilmer Colmenares Gonzalez, 27, barricaded himself inside an apartment complex and held police at bay for at least eight hours before he was finally apprehended.
The New York Post asserts that the men are reportedly connected to the violent Tren de Aragua gang. However, the Dallas Police Department told Fox 4 that there is little evidence to make the connection.
“There is no evidence at this time to indicate that Hernandez-Hernandez is a member of the Tren de Aragua gang from Venezuela,” Dallas Police responded. Yet, they refused to give any more information when pressed about the Tren de Aragua affiliation of the other detainees.
Hernandez-Hernandez accused the others of being part of a criminal street gang called El Anti-Tren.
Nevertheless, all men are in the United States illegally and are being held in the Dallas County Jail on an immigration hold.
