- Allen West announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Texas governor.
- He joins three existing candidates, which include Gov. Abbott, Chad Prather, and Don Huffines.
- Allen West indicated he would run on a platform of securing the border, election integrity, and property tax relief.
- This is the first primary election Gov. Abbott has seen multiple challengers in since first being elected.
