Conservative challenger Jay Wiley secured the endorsement of a prominent central Texas grassroots organization in his race to unseat State Rep. Paul Workman (R – Spicewood).

More than two-thirds of the members of the Central Texas Republican Assembly voted to endorse Wiley, surpassing the supermajority threshold required to earn such an honor. The CTRA promotes themselves as a “grass roots volunteer organization dedicated to working within the Republican Party to promote the election of the most conservative candidates possible.”

Such news highlights the growing discontent with Paul Workman, the incumbent in House District 47.

Last session, Workman failed the 2015 Fiscal Responsibility Index with a 63, his second failing grade in the past two sessions. He voted to re-elect State Rep. Joe Straus as Speaker of the House over conservative State Rep. Scott Turner, enabling the same cartel of Democrats and liberal Republicans to stifle commonsense legislation supported by the grassroots.

Other notable legislative endorsements from the CTRA include:

House District 54: Larry Smith

House District 55: Molly White

House District 121: Jeff Judson
