Dalton Montgomery is smart enough to know what his future could look like with the East Carolina football program.
The 6-foot-6, 282-pound redshirt freshmen was tabbed winner of the Jerry T. Brooks Award for his academic accomplishments during his first year on campus, according to the school’s website.
Montgomery’s hope now is to get himself healthy enough from a lingering foot injury to be the player the Pirates envisioned he could be when they recruited him out of Lake Dallas High.
There, Montgomery was instrumental in anchoring an offense that gained over 5,000 total yards and finished 9-2 during his senior season, all while ranking No. 1 in his class.
While at ECU, Montgomery has already earned “Iron Pirate” distinction after booking a 330-pound bench press, a 500-pound back squat, an 8’7” broad jump, a 4.7 time in the pro shuttle and a 59” shot put toss.
Montgomery settled on East Carolina over several Ivy League schools that expressed interest.
