The football season hasn’t yet started, but DeSoto alumnus James Proche is already racking up spots on awards watchlists.

Proche, a wide receiver at Southern Methodist University, recently was named to two watch list for national awards, SMU’s website said.

Proche, a senior, has been placed on both the Maxwell Award Watch List for player of the year and Biletnikoff Award Watch List for the nation’s top wide receiver.

Last season, Proche had 93 catches covering 1,199 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Mustangs. He led the American Athletic Conference with 7.8 yards per catch, receiving yards per game, and total receiving touchdowns. He was second in the conference and 13th in the country with an average of 138.08 all-purpose yards per contest.

At DeSoto, Proche was named a four-star recruit and  was ranked No. 38 among wide receivers nationally by ESPN. In his final year in high school, Broche had 18 catches for 335 yards in seven games, while also posting 227 yards and a touchdown on 15 punt returns.
