A major college football award’s watch list has Grapevine representation on it.

Texas Tech’s Alan Bowman, who piled up statistics and wins as Grapevine High School’s quarterback, is a preseason candidate for the Davey O’Brien Award for the nation’s top quarterback, TTU’s website recently announced.

Bowman, one of 30 players who are candidates, played eight games for the Red Raiders in 2018, racking up 2,638 passing yards — an average of almost 330 yards per contest, fourth-best in the country — and notching 17 touchdown passes. His 605 passing yards against Houston last year set single-game freshman records both at the school and in the Big 12 Conference.

Sixteen semifinalists for the honor will be named on Nov. 13, with three finalists revealed on Nov. 25. The award will be given out on Dec. 12 on ESPN.

In his time at Grapevine, Bowman amassed 11,393 passing yards with 119 touchdowns.

Texas Tech opens the season by hosting Montana State at 3 p.m. Aug. 31.
