Brandon Garza stands as a bright example of what the University of Texas San Antonio football program hopes to represent.

While the 5-foot-10, 195-pound sophomore quarterback has rarely seen action, the toughness and dedication he’s displayed are qualities the UTSA coaching staff are almost certainly looking for more of.

According to the school’s website, as a sophomore Garza was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll member after transferring from Houston to walk on with the program. Before joining the Roadrunners, Garza was also an American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection as a freshman at Houston.

On the field, Garza has also shown himself to be capable, passing or 4,721 yards and 49 touchdowns over two seasons at Harlingen High. As a senior, he passed for school records of 2,821 yards and 28 TDs as a senior.

Garza was also previously tabbed High School Sports Magazine All-South Texas QB MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
