Now a sophomore at Southern Methodist University, Morgan Smith chose to remain in her Dallas hometown after carving a standout reputation with the Lady Scots at Highland Park High School.

As her SMU profile states, the 5-foot-6 guard logged 22 rebounds, 38 points, five assists and three steals in the 28 games she played this season.

“I’ve definitely gotten a lot stronger,” Smith told interviewer Victoria White, writing for the college’s athletics department. “Mentally stronger too, not just physically. I felt like when I came in I was just small and undersized, and I think I’ve really grown that way.”

At Highland Park, she lettered four times in basketball and averaged six assists and 13 points per game. As an SMU freshman in the 2017-18 season, she played an average of 11 minutes per game in 28 games that first year, scoring 38 points for the season. Against Loyola Marymount, she single-handedly scored seven points, and six points in each against UC Riverside and Texas A&M.

Majoring in pre-advertising at SMU, Smith said she is welcoming and advising new team members as a sophomore this year, paying forward the encouragement she received from her first-year teammates.
