John Doxakis, a Lamar alumnus who pitches in the Tampa Bay Rays system, made the 2019 Southeastern Conference spring honor roll.

The honor was announced on the website for Texas A&M, Doxakis’s college team. He had an agribusiness major at the school. To qualify for the honor roll, a player has to meet criteria such as having a minimum grade point average of 3.00 for either the preceding academic term or cumulatively.

At Texas A&M, Doxakis was a second-team All-American for both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game/Rawlings. His career statistics over three seasons as an Aggie included a 19-12 record, a 2.98 earned run average, and 258 strikeouts.

Doxakis, a second-round selection in this year’s Major League Baseball Draft, plays for the Hudson Valley Renegades, Tampa Bay’s Class A Short Season team in the New York-Penn League. Through July 9, Doxakis in three appearances had allowed no runs in 6⅔ innings and had struck out seven batters against six hits and one walk allowed.
