It is often said that the box score does not always define a player’s impact.

Magnolia High alum Spencer Nigh, a senior fullback for Auburn, contributes to the Tigers’ offensive attack in ways not measured by carries, receptions or even yards. The 6-foot, 267-pound Nigh essentially acts as a battering ram, clearing the way for Auburn’s stable of running backs.

He and teammate Malik Miller were recently praised by head coach Gus Malzahn for their roles in the Mississippi State game.

Having appeared in 36 games to date, Nigh, a business major who joined as a walk-on in 2016, earned a scholarship this season. He has made the SEC Academic Honor Roll three straight years.

At Magnolia, Nigh took home District 19-5A MVP as a junior and won the Class 5A state title in both shot put and discus as a senior.
