The Southern Methodist University football team placed eight Mustangs on the Athlon Sports All-American Athletic Conference Preseason Selection that was announced Tuesday afternoon.

The offensive side of the ball led the Mustangs as five players were named with the prestigious honor.

Senior James Proche led the Mustangs in votes offensively, as he was selected to the First-Team.

Proche led SMU with 93 receptions for 1,199 yards, led the conference in receptions with seven per game, while hauling in 12 touchdowns on the season.

Reggie Roberson, Shane Buechele, Xavier Jones, and Hayden Howerton was named Fourth-Team.

Defensively, three Mustangs notched their name on the list. Richard Moore, Rodney Clemons, and Delante Scott were selected to the defensive Second-Team.

Moore led SMU with 92 tackles and a team leading five sacks.

The SMU Mustangs looks forward to a bounce back 2019 season, as they open play at Arkansas State University on Sturday August 31, at 6 p.m. broadcasting live on ESPN.
