After playing varsity softball throughout her studies at William B. Travis High School in Richmond, Texas, freshman infielder Shaina Amir is ready to make a similar mark for the Lamar University Big Red.

The Freshman Newcomer of the Year at Travis High, Amir achieved designation three times as a First Team All-District player and was Second Team All-District her sophomore year.

At Lamar, the biology major has logged a .267 batting average in 46 games played this season. Amir is learning under head coach Amy Hooks, a recent addition to the Big Red’s coaching staff. Hooks’ background includes selection as an All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year.
