One look at UTEP defensive back Michael Lewis’ career line and it is safe to assume that the three-year letterman from Trinity High collects tackles easily.

The 6-foot, 192-pound senior is close to breaking the 200-tackle mark for his time with the Miners, but one statistic eludes him. Lewis has yet to grab an interception.

The lack of interceptions, however, does not diminish the Trinity High graduate’s effectiveness in the secondary. He has broken up 10 passes so far in his collegiate career, as well as registered a forced fumble and a fumble recovery – both personal UTEP firsts – earlier this season.

Lewis is a multidisciplinary studies major. At Trinity, he was a productive utility player.
