Not only is he one of the best members of the Texas Legislature on fiscal issues, but State Rep. Jim Jackson (R-Carrollton) is a gentleman in the finest sense of the word.

I had the honor of presenting him the “Texas Taxpayer Hero” Award at an event in Dallas this evening. While most politicians are all too eager to receive plaudits, and then brag on themselves, Mr. Jackson instead spent his speech focusing on the labors of individual Texans (not government) in growing the economy and improving everyone’s lives — and he stressed the often overlooked fact that those hard-working Texans need to be protected from high taxes that impede progress.

He devoted a good portion of his time at the podium to recognizing the achievements of people in the audience, shining the spotlight on them — and away from himself. He genuinely enjoys recognizing those who work hard and don’t seek attention.

Jim Jackson is a true hero for Texas’ taxpayers, but he is also a gentleman who earnestly seeks to serve the people of our state and his community. We need more men and women in the Texas Legislature (and at all levels of government) like him.
