Dallas Independent School District has agreed to comply with Texas law banning biological boys from competing in girls’ sports.
Back in February, Attorney General Ken Paxton pressured Dallas ISD to provide proof that it was not violating state laws protecting the integrity of female sports programs.
Paxton had sent a letter to the district after learning that one of its coordinators, Mahoganie Gaston, was allegedly coaching parents on how to circumvent the law via out-of-state birth certificate loopholes. The letter demanded that the district relinquish any evidence of state law violations.
Gaston resigned after Paxton’s records request sparked an internal investigation by Dallas ISD.
Now, Dallas ISD has entered into an agreed order with Paxton to ensure that biological males identifying as females are not being enrolled in girls’ athletics. The order does not admit any wrongdoing by the district, but ensures the district will notify staff about the policy and will not counsel students on circumventing it.
“I urge all other school districts to fulfill their legal obligations to protect girls’ sports and end any attempts to circumvent Texas law,” said Paxton. “Biological males have no place in girls’ sports, and any Texas public schools doing otherwise will be held accountable.”
Texas Scorecard had not heard back from Dallas ISD by publication.
