A new political action committee bankrolled by George Soros seeks to put Democrats in charge of the Lone Star State.

According to campaign finance reports, the Texas Majority PAC has received $750,000 from Democracy PAC II—a PAC started by billionaire George Soros to fund political organizations that help elect Democrats.

While little has been posted publicly about the new group, a listing from a recent meeting of the Dallas County Democratic Party states, “Texas Majority PAC is a project started in 2023 focused on growing our Democratic majority and winning statewide elections.”

Soros made billions as a hedge fund manager and now spends much of his fortune funding liberal causes through philanthropic and personal donations. Since 1984 Soros has donated more than $32 billion to Democrat politicians and organizations.

Last year, Soros donated $1 million to Democrat gubernatorial candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke in his failed campaign against Gov. Greg Abbott. Additionally, he has funded the efforts to elect liberal district attorneys in the state’s most populous counties.

Tracy Marshall, the executive director of Transparency USA—a nonpartisan organization that provides information on political spending—says the PAC’s initial funding could signal it’s a force that will be significant in upcoming elections.

“There’s a new power player in Texas politics: Texas Majority PAC,” Marshall told Texas Scorecard. “Established in December with the goal of turning Texas blue, this George Soros-funded group is already among the top 10 most well-funded political committees in Texas.”

This is not the first such effort to hit Texas, as groups like Battleground Texas were founded 10 years ago with the same goal of putting Texas in Democrat control. Meanwhile, Republicans have held every statewide office in Texas for nearly 30 years.
