In an official statement, Attorney General Ken Paxton reflected on the anniversary of his impeachment acquittal, which he called a weaponization of our political system.

Before the end of the 2023 legislative session, the Texas House rushed proceedings to impeach Paxton. Months later, the impeachment crumbled in the Senate, with whistleblowers admitting to having no credible evidence.

“Last year, on September 16, 2023, I was fully acquitted in an impeachment trial in the Texas Senate, winning an unprecedented battle against the most corrupt forces in the State of Texas,” Paxton said in the statement.

“Dade Phelan’s impeachment hoax blocked me from performing my duties, depriving Texas voters of their elected representation because he was paid off by special interests who wanted me out of office,” Paxton continued.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick blasted House Speaker Dade Phelan for refusing to disclose the cost of the impeachment proceedings.

“The Senate spent $435K total for two months of preparation and the trial itself,” wrote Patrick. “Dade Phelan has REFUSED to comply with the audit for almost a year now, and apparently, he doesn’t believe he needs to tell taxpayers how much he spent on the impeachment.”

“Lobbyists and donors in Texas have attacked me since my first day in politics because I was an outsider who took the voters’ concerns straight to the Capitol,” Paxton wrote. “They escalated their attacks on me—and ultimately resorted to their impeachment scam—when I turned the Texas AG’s office into the most effective tool in the Nation against federal government overreach and corporate misdeeds.”

Paxton has issued investigations into illegal voting, blocked the Biden-Harris administration’s attempt to force “transgender” policies into schools, and sued General Motors for allegedly stealing customer data.

“This is the price that every elected leader will pay if we do not end the weaponization and perversion of justice in this country,” Paxton said, referring to political persecution. “At a time where the courts have been repeatedly abused to undermine President Trump and partisan hatred has even resulted in two serious attempts on his life, we must reclaim the American foundation of the rule of law or risk turning into a third world nation.”

“It is my great honor to represent the voters of the great State of Texas and to position our State as an unstoppable force for liberty and justice. I will never back down,” Paxton concluded.
