A New York-based doctor has been blocked from prescribing abortion drugs to Texans.
Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Dr. Margaret Carpenter in December 2024 for mailing abortion pills to a Collin County resident despite not being a licensed Texas physician—a violation of state law.
Consequently, the mother suffered serious medical complications, and the life of the child was ended.
Carpenter is the founder of the Abortion Coalition for Telemedicine, an organization that aims to provide “telemedicine abortion care” in all 50 states.
Shortly after Carpenter was sued by Paxton last year, ACT released an official statement accusing him of “putting women directly in harm’s way.”
The District Court of Collin County found Carpenter guilty of violating Texas law for practicing medicine without a license and found that an unborn child died as a result.
Presiding Judge Bryan Gantt ordered Carpenter to pay a civil penalty of $100,000. Gantt also issued a permanent injunction to enjoin her from further violations of the Texas Medical Code.
“In Texas, we will always protect innocent life and uphold the laws that protect mothers and unborn babies,” stated Paxton on Friday. “Radical out-of-state doctors will not be allowed to peddle dangerous and illegal drugs in Texas to kill unborn babies.”
“Any doctor attempting to do so will be punished to the full extent of the law,” he continued.
Neither Carpenter nor ACT has responded to Texas Scorecard’s request for comment by publication.
