Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced he’s committing $1 million from his campaign funds to launch an ambitious effort aimed at establishing a Turning Point USA chapter on every college and high school campus in Texas.
Patrick shared the pledge Friday morning, describing it as a “Texas project” to expand the conservative youth organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk. He said the idea came after a call with TPUSA executives about plans to increase the group’s presence across the state.
“I had not planned to make a donation before the call,” Patrick said, “but the Lord put it on my heart to make a meaningful contribution to kick start the Texas project.”
Patrick recalled meeting Kirk years earlier at President Donald Trump’s 2017 inauguration, where he said the two struck up a conversation that left a lasting impression.
“I was always inspired by his mission to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government,” Patrick wrote. “He gave his life for his mission. He gave his life for Christ.”
Additionally, Patrick announced that both he and Attorney General Ken Paxton will speak at a TPUSA event at the University of Houston on Tuesday, November 11. He said he hopes his donation encourages other Texans to contribute, “whether it’s $10 or much more,” to help expand the group’s campus presence.
Turning Point USA, which promotes conservative principles among young people, has grown rapidly in recent years. According to Patrick, more than 135,000 requests have been submitted to start new chapters since Kirk’s assassination. Texas, he said, should lead the nation in that effort.
“Texas has the size and the heart to open more chapters than any other state and more than most countries,” Patrick said. “Let’s get it done for Charlie, and for Texas.”
