Following outrage from citizens and lawmakers, an employee of Planned Parenthood is no longer a director at the Texas Medical Board.

It was revealed last month that Robert Bredt has worked for Planned Parenthood of South Texas since 2011, where he oversees the operation and administration of the laboratory. Bredt joined TMB in 2012 and has been paid $185,000 annually by taxpayers.

Shortly after the information surfaced, State Rep. Briscoe Cain (R-Deer Park) sent a letter urging the TMB to terminate Bredt’s employment immediately.

State Rep. Brian Harrison (R-Midlothian) also wrote to Gov. Greg Abbott asking that his office work with TMB to “immediately remove this individual.”

Following the letters, Harrison threatened that if TMB did not terminate Bredt, he would file legislation that would defund the board. During Fiscal Year 2024, taxpayers funded TMB to the tune of nearly $23 million. For FY 2025, taxpayers will fork over $21 million to TMB.

On Wednesday, Harrison’s office was informed that Bredt no longer works for the TMB.

“WE WON! My office just confirmed that the Planned Parenthood official who was hired as Medical Director of the Texas Medical Board is no longer in that role,” Harrison wrote on X. “Grateful for everyone who joined the call to end this insanity after we exposed it 10 days ago.”

Harrison also said that there needs to be an investigation to determine how Bredt was allowed to assume the position in the first place.

“There should be an immediate investigation to determine how this happened and accountability for everyone involved.”

Cain also commented on the removal, writing that he’s glad TMB made the “right decision.”

“I was the first to publicly call on the Texas Medical Board to dismiss a doctor working for Planned Parenthood, and I’m glad to see they finally made the right decision,” Cain wrote on X.

Texas Scorecard reached out to TMB asking whether Bredt was terminated or resigned. They did not respond by publication. However, Harrison’s office confirmed with Texas Scorecard that Bredt has been removed from any government position and is off of the public payroll.
