See You at the Library events sponsored by BRAVE Books will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, marking the second year of the nationwide event.

The library events feature parents reading BRAVE book titles like “That’s What Family’s For” about a supportive family dynamic, reading memory verses, and distributing hand-held American flags to children in attendance.

“Children will enjoy dancing along to songs and hearing stories that promote self-confidence, build character, and help children develop a love for their country,” said Perla Muñoz Hopkins, parental rights advocate and co-host of this year’s SYATL event in Leander. “Readers and narrators include teachers, veterans, child and foster care advocates, and first responders.”

The story hours began last year after Kirk Cameron was denied the opportunity to read his BRAVE book “As You Grow, on the Fruit of the Spirit” in over 50 libraries.

Cameron and event coordinators resorted to renting out private library rooms and held more than 300 story hours across the U.S.

This year, Kirk Cameron has invited Guinness World Record to record the event, hoping to set a new record and trump the “largest attendance at a drag artist story time” record set in June.

“On August 24th, we want to see thousands of children come together to read books that teach the traditional values America was founded on so that the kids of today can grow up to be the patriotic, faithful leaders we need for tomorrow,” Cameron said in a video announcing the event.

Williamson County Citizens Defending Freedom is sponsoring five separate story hours in cities throughout the county. Marcia Watson, executive director of the group, said they were blessed to have Kirk Cameron at last year’s event in Taylor, which amassed hundreds of attendees.

“There has been so much attention brought out lately about all of the sexually age-inappropriate books in schools and public libraries that we wanted to counter that with good, wholesome books designed for the whole family in mind,” Watson told Texas Scorecard.
