U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson says the impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Ken Paxton are a “witch hunt” and a “disgrace.”

Over Memorial Day weekend, the Texas House voted 121-23 to impeach Paxton over disputed charges of misapplication of public resources, bribery, obstruction of justice, abuse of public trust, and disregard of official duties.

After the impeachment, former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social—a social media platform he created after he was banned from Twitter—saying he would fight any Republican who voted for the impeachment resolution.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, meanwhile, took to Twitter to call the impeachment a “travesty.”

In a post on Monday, Jackson said Paxton’s only offense was “standing up to the weak-kneed establishment, and putting Texans FIRST!”

Jackson had also called the impeachment a witch hunt ahead of the House’s vote in May.

Meanwhile, the Republican Party of Texas has also officially condemned the impeachment of Paxton, noting that the Texas House did not consider—or even seek out—any “rebuttal evidence or testimony” from Paxton.
