Republicans dominated the Texas judicial elections held on November 5.

Republican incumbent Justice Jimmy Blacklock will stay on the Texas Supreme Court, besting Democrat challenger DaSean Jones.

John Devine, a Republican incumbent on the Supreme Court who narrowly won a tough primary in March, has also been reelected. He beat Democrat Christine Weems.

Incumbent Republican Jane Bland also secured her spot on the bench in a race against Democrat Bonnie Lee Goldstein.

The three Court of Criminal Appeals candidates endorsed by Attorney General Ken Paxton during the primary earlier this year also won against their Democrat opponents.

Attorney Gina Parker beat Democrat Nancy Mulder. In March, she knocked off incumbent Republican Judge Barbara Hervey.

Former Appellate Judge David Schenck and criminal defense attorney Lee Finley have also won against their Democrat opponents. Schenck beat the court’s incumbent presiding judge, Sharon Keller, during the Republican primary.

Paxton had endorsed Parker, Schenck, and Finley against the three incumbents after they ruled in 2021 that he could not prosecute election fraud.

The Texas Supreme Court is the decisive court in the state on civil matters, while the nine-member Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has the final word on all criminal matters.
