One day before the election, biological men participating in women’s sports continues to be a featured issue in the Ted Cruz and Colin Allred U.S. Senate campaigns.

U.S. Rep. Allred’s voting record in support of boys in girl’s sports has been a key message of Cruz’ campaign ads. In an October debate between the two candidates, Allred was pressed to clarify his stance on the issue.

Allred said he “wouldn’t support these ridiculous things that [Cruz is] talking about,” but added, “What I think is that folks should not be discriminated against.”

In October, Allred also appeared in an ad stating he does not want boys playing girls’ sports.

An unearthed letter from 2022, however, shows Allred affirming his support for the “transgender community’s participation in sports.” Allred cited his support and co-sponsorship of the Equality Act, which would allow a person to play a sport or enter a locker room based on their “gender identity.”

Allred’s record in Congress also includes a vote against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act—which aimed to stop school athletic programs from allowing men to participate in female sports.

“Why Colin Allred is blatantly lying when his stance on biological men playing in girls’ sports is clear as day is beyond comprehension,” stated a Cruz campaign spokesperson last month. “His campaign repeatedly seems to believe Texas voters are fools. They’ll find out that’s not the case the hard way on Election Day when Texans reject him as their next Senator.”

Election day is on November 5.

Colin Allred’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment before publication.
