A member of the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua has been captured in San Antonio.
The unnamed male gang member, 27, was arrested through a collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
The individual is a citizen of Venezuela and is reportedly the suspect in an attempted murder investigation.
HSI San Antonio Special Agent in Charge Craig Larrabee said, “The successful arrest of a member of the Tren de Aragua gang in San Antonio was made possible through the resolute efforts of HSI and our dedicated local law enforcement partners.”
“This arrest highlights our steadfast dedication to the safety of our communities and the relentless pursuit of justice,” he added.
ICE is continuing to round up violent criminals and gang members around Texas. Earlier this month, the agency arrested an illegal alien from Mexico with a violent criminal history and three previous deportations.
David Gonzalez-Martinez, 52, was apprehended by ICE and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Houston. He entered the country at least four separate times and was deported three times between 2001 and 2015.
While in the United States, Gonzalez-Martinez was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault with a weapon, possession of drugs, and illegal re-entry.
ICE agents reportedly also captured two more Tren de Aragua members in El Paso last month.
Jhonatan Johan Romero-Pineda, 34, and Uzcategui-Uzcategui, 27, are originally from Venezuela and were identified by ICE as “active associates” of TdA. They were arrested along with convicted child sex abuser Javier Irazabal-Rodriguez, 27.
