A Houston-area man has been found guilty by a federal jury of kidnapping, hostage taking, and harboring an illegal alien as part of “smuggling for ransom scheme.”
Cameron Jake Tucker of Bacliff was found guilty on four of the counts brought against him during his trial in the Southern District of Texas last week.
Tucker was indicted in October 2025 for kidnapping, hostage taking, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, harboring an illegal alien, and conspiracy to harbor an illegal alien.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District, authorities began an investigation into Tucker in May 2025 after responding to reports “of an illegal alien who had escaped a Houston stash house, without shoes, money, a cellphone, and identification, alleging he had been held against his will.”
During the trial, the prosecutor described how the illegal alien was assaulted by Tucker with a revolver after their family was unable to pay additional smuggling fees.
After being confined to a bedroom closet, the victim escaped through a second-story window. The illegal alien later led authorities to the stash house.
During the trial, the defense made an attempt to sway the jury by trying to convince them that the victim had fabricated the events in order to obtain immigration benefits, despite the victim never receiving any and being removed to Mexico.
The jury found Tucker guilty of all counts except for the count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
U.S. District Judge David Hittner presided over the case and set Tucker’s sentencing date for October 15.
Tucker faces up to life in federal prison and up to a $250,000 fine and will remain in custody.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide operation that uses “the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigrants, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.”
