President Donald Trump injected some last minute excitement into Texas Republican primaries Friday night, issuing last-minute endorsements that directly contradict Gov. Greg Abbott in multiple key races just days before voters head to the polls.

Shortly after appearing in Corpus Christi, Trump endorsed businessman Don Huffines for comptroller and Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller for re-election in posts on Truth Social, signaling a split at the top of the Republican ticket as early voting has already ended and Election Day looms Tuesday.

Trump’s backing of Huffines puts him squarely opposite Abbott, who has spent the past several weeks traveling the state alongside State Sen. Kelly Hancock, Huffines’ chief rival for the comptroller post. In his endorsement, Trump labeled Huffines a “MAGA Warrior” and said he has his “Complete and Total Endorsement.”

Notably, Huffines also ran against Abbott for the gubernatorial nomination in 2022.

The president also threw his support behind Miller, praising the incumbent as a longtime ally and effective advocate for Texas agriculture.

Abbott, however, has been campaigning with Miller’s challenger, Nate Sheets.

The split isn’t limited to statewide offices.

In Congressional District 9, Abbott has endorsed State Rep. Briscoe Cain, while Trump has backed Republican Alex Mealer. And in Congressional District 35, Abbott is supporting State Rep. John Lujan while Trump has endorsed Carlos De La Cruz.

The late endorsements come after early voting has ended in Texas. Election Day is Tuesday, March 3.
