Texas Tribune is reporting that the education commissioner has found a way to increase the number of charter schools. That’s great news for kids, even if the teacher unions and state Democratic party are up in arms.

According to the news story, Commissioner Robert Scott will let high-performing charters expand the number of campuses under their current agreements. Where a single operator has multiple licenses, Scott plans to ask them to give the extra’s back in exchange for permission to operate the various schools under one charter.

This will get around the cap limiting the number of charter schools.

Of course, liberal defenders of the bankrupt and failing status quo aren’t too happy. That, of course, is probably all one needs to know in recognizing just how smart a move this is.
