Newly obtained court documents show a Celina middle school teacher, arrested last October for being intoxicated in class, had taken a student off campus and driven drunk with the girl in her car.

Jainya Bystrova Walder, 40, was removed from her classroom on the afternoon of October 30, 2025, under suspicion of intoxication, then arrested and charged with endangering a child, a second-degree felony.

At the time, Walder was a 6th grade teacher at Moore Middle School in the Celina Independent School District.

Walder was arrested again on February 20 and charged with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger younger than 15 years old, a state jail felony.

An arrest warrant affidavit, signed February 4 and published by the online Facebook group Celina Shenanigans on March 20, shows that hours after police were called to her classroom on October 30, Walder had a blood alcohol content of 0.22 percent—more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

The affidavit also states that Walder had driven drunk that afternoon with a student under the age of 15 in her car.

According to the affidavit, at the time of her first arrest Walder smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. Walder reportedly told police she had been drinking the night before.

However, the affidavit suggests the teacher continued drinking during an off-campus lunchtime excursion with the young student.

The affidavit states that the student was seen leaving campus with Walder around noon that day. The girl told investigators the teacher removed her from school without authorization and told her “not to worry about her driving and not to tell anyone.”

The student said Walder drove them to the teacher’s residence, where she reported seeing Walder consume a “red liquid.”

She described Walder’s driving as “unsafe,” stating that Walder swerved, nearly hit another car, and made her fearful.

“These facts, taken together, demonstrate the suspect was intoxicated while operating a motor vehicle with a child passenger under the age of 15,” the affidavit concludes.

Walder is currently free on bonds totaling $60,000.

She was placed on leave following her first arrest and no longer works for the district.

Walder has held a Texas teaching certificate since 2021, when she began working for Celina ISD. Her certification is on indefinite suspension until the criminal charges against her are resolved.

“How can this possibly happen?” asked David Quick, who manages Celina Shenanigans. “Are there no systems in place? Can anyone, drunk or otherwise, take a student from campus without permission? Is anyone’s child safe at school?”

Moore Middle School was also the site of a sex abuse scandal involving then-coach and teacher Caleb Elliott, who was first arrested in October 2025 for secretly recording male students in the boys’ locker room. Elliott is facing state and federal charges, and he’s being sued along with the district by families of dozens of boys he’s accused of targeting.

Another Celina ISD teacher, high school special education aide Micheale “Shelley” Clark, was arrested in November 2025 on a charge of endangering a disabled individual.

Thousands of Texas educators have been reported to the state for misconduct.
