Hailing from Argyle, Texas, Austin Aune joined the North Texas Mean Green this year as a freshman quarterback, capping a successful six-year stint in professional baseball.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 206-pound Aune graduated from Argyle High School in 2012 and played with the New York Yankees and its affiliate teams. His 10 triples in 2015 tied for third-place in the South Atlantic League. In high school, he had played baseball and football, throwing for 3,411 yards and 33 touchdowns, and both pitched and hit at a .447 average.

After his release from the Tampa Yankees, he returned to football (he originally signed with Texas Christian University). A profile in the Yankees’ blog RiverAveBlues.com notes: “Baseball America ranked him as the 15th best prospect in Texas and 128th best prospect overall prior to the 2012 draft.”
