An illegal alien accused of murdering two Chick-fil-A employees at their workplace in Irving admitted to previously sneaking past United States authorities to enter the country illegally.
Sources informed the New York Post this week that 37-year-old El Salvador national Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta confided in custody that he entered the U.S. illegally in the past, but is unsure exactly when or where.
He also reportedly claimed that he has a child who is a U.S. citizen.
Mendoza Argueta was first arrested by local police around 2:50 a.m. last Thursday on suspicion of carrying out a shooting the day prior.
The shooting, which took place at the Chick-fil-A near MacArthur Boulevard and Walnut Hill Lane in Irving’s Los Colinas neighborhood, ended when the suspect fled the scene in a silver 1997 Honda Sedan.
FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth reported that authorities identified Mendoza Argueta after interviewing his wife, who worked at Chick-fil-A.
The shooting’s victims were identified by local news as 31-year-old Brayan Godoy and 49-year-old Patricia Portillo.
Mendoza Argueta was previously identified as being in the country illegally after his booking information revealed a hold from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE later confirmed the report to Fox News.
Data from the CBP shows since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2024, more than 13,000 “criminal noncitizens”—those who have committed a crime before interacting with Border Patrol—have attempted to cross the border and were apprehended.
