McALLEN—Saying that the Democrats are out of touch with the values of the Rio Grande Valley, Attorney General Ken Paxton rallied with voters in Hidalgo County on Tuesday night as he picked up the endorsement of the National Border Patrol Council.
Joining Paxton at the standing-room-only event were Eric Flores and Tano Tijerina, who are looking to unseat incumbent Democrats Vicente Gonzalez Jr. and Henry Cuellar, respectively.
Flores dismissed the notion of a blue wave, telling attendees, “There’s a red tidal wave coming, and we’re going to crush them all.”
Tijerina said his campaign’s polling shows strong support not only for his campaign, but Paxton’s senatorial bid.
“First of all, the big question is: What have the Democrats done for the Hispanic people? Which, for the last few years, is absolutely nothing,” said Tijerina when speaking to reporters afterward the event.
Paxton echoed that message, saying that Republicans have seen their numbers increasing in South Texas because Democrats have taken the RGV for granted. “James Talarico isn’t going to be listening to you; he’s going to be listening to Chuck Schumer.”
Speaking to Texas Scorecard after the event, Paxton said Talarico is pushing a “dishonest” message on “affordability.”
“We know it’s not true because of the spending that the Biden administration did, the spending that he did in the Texas House, voting for more spending, voting against tax cuts, voting for state income tax. So, this idea that somehow he cares about affordability, everything he does goes against affordability.”
