During the first DOGE subcommittee hearing this week, freshman U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill of North Texas defended the newly established Department of Government Efficiency—led by Elon Musk—while tearing into Democrats for their selective outrage over unelected officials and rampant government waste.
Gill (R-Flower Mound) wasted no time calling out Democrats for what he described as grandstanding and political theater.
“Republicans want to cut waste, fraud, and abuse from our federal government and save taxpayer dollars, and Democrats want to grandstand and play politics,” he said, noting that most of the committee’s Democrat members didn’t even bother to stay for the full hearing.

Instead of addressing the $2.7 trillion in improper payments uncovered since 2003, Gill pointed out that Democrats were fixated on Musk. “All we’ve heard about for most of this hearing from the other side of the aisle is Elon Musk, Elon Musk, Elon Musk.”
He also called out their hypocrisy on unelected bureaucrats, questioning why they had no issue with Anthony Fauci, Alejandro Mayorkas, or Miguel Cardona wielding unchecked power.
“Where were they whenever their god, Anthony Fauci, was forcing vaccine and mask mandates on the American people?” he asked. “Where were they whenever unelected Alejandro Mayorkas was facilitating the invasion of our country by illegal aliens who were murdering, and raping, and pillaging our people?”
Gill specifically took aim at former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, whom he accused of using regulation by enforcement to hinder financial markets—particularly in crypto. He emphasized that Musk’s role at DOGE is to carry out the will of the American people, not to serve as an unelected bureaucrat.
“The reality is that Elon Musk serves as an employee of the president, and we were given a massive mandate to carry out what he’s been doing. His job is to carry out the will of the American people as expressed through the executive.”
Gill then made an eye-catching comparison between Musk and former President Joe Biden.
“Even Elon Musk and his DOGE efforts now are polling at a 49 percent approval rating, which … is 16 points higher than President Biden was polling at whenever he finished his term in office.”
Beyond DOGE, Gill blasted Democrats for looking the other way as taxpayer money was funneled into causes benefiting the left.
“So much of the waste, fraud, and abuse of our federal government is actually funding their side of the aisle,” he said. “It’s funding media outlets that are running cover for Democrats routinely—NPR, PBS, the BBC, Politico. It’s going to fund left-wing NGOs that are facilitating the invasion of our country. It’s going to fund left-wing transgender activism and sex changes all over the globe.”
Gill made clear that his mission on the committee is to expose financial corruption and fight back against government waste.
“If you care about rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse, we should be serious about this. I’m very excited to be on this committee. I’m excited to expose what’s been going on.”
