U.S. Reps. Chip Roy and Randy Weber led a group of Texas lawmakers in a letter calling on the Biden-Harris administration to provide information from United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to ensure that only U.S. citizens are registered to vote in Texas.

The letter to USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou urged the agency to immediately provide data requested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson in September to assist Texas in “verifying that noncitizens are not registered to vote in our great state of Texas.”

“Texas has a duty to prevent noncitizens from voting,” Roy (TX-21) said in a press release on Wednesday. “The Biden-Harris administration is trying to prevent that for the same reason they fought the SAVE Act (H.R. 8281): they want noncitizens—especially illegal aliens—to vote.”

Weber (TX-14) referred to the Biden-Harris administration’s lack of cooperation in providing the State of Texas with the requested information as a “dereliction of duty” and that “the administration was willfully turning a blind eye as noncitizens potentially influence our elections.”

“If federal law prohibits noncitizens from voting, then why are they sitting idly by instead of handing over the information that would ensure Texas can maintain clean voter rolls?” Weber said.

He added, “It’s really quite simple: they should be doing their job. My Texas Republican colleagues and I are demanding that they release the voter rolls requested by the Texas Secretary of State without further delay.”

Joining Roy and Weber in the letter to USCISO were fellow Texas U.S. Reps. Lance Gooden (R-5), John Carter (R-31), Brian Babin (R-36), Keith Self (R-3), August Pfluger (R-11), Pete Sessions (R-17), Ronny Jackson (R-13), Morgan Luttrell (R-8), Troy Nehls (R-22), Wesley Hunt (R-38), Beth Van Duyne (R-24), and Pat Fallon (R-4).

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is also demanding access to citizenship data from the Biden-Harris administration to prevent noncitizens from voting in Texas.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced in late August that more than a million ineligible voters were removed from Texas voter rolls.
