UPDATED April 16 with comments from the district.
Another teacher in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District has been charged with a child sex crime involving a student.
Kolby Brice Campbell was arrested by Carrollton Police in March on a charge of child grooming, a third-degree felony.
Campbell was a theater teacher at Creekview High School in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.
He was booked into the Denton County Jail March 28 and released the same day on a $25,000 bond. The offense date was listed as August 1, 2024.
In a notice to Creekview families about the arrest, school officials referred to Campbell as a “former theater teacher” but did not identify him by name.
When asked to clarify when and how Campbell left the district, a Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD spokeswoman directed Texas Scorecard to file a public information request.
“There is an active investigation involving a former employee,” stated Chief Communications Officer Caren Rodriguez. “The Carrollton Police Department is leading the investigation, and the district is fully cooperating with law enforcement. This is all the information available to share.”
Campbell has been certified to teach theater since 2016. His certificate is currently under review by the Texas Education Agency.
Online records show Campbell worked for Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD since 2020.
In December 2022, Campbell appeared in an episode of Queering Education, a Teaching While Queer podcast about “LGBTQ+ inclusive teaching.” Campbell talked about “how theater teachers build belonging after trauma.”
Campbell was the second Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD teacher arrested in March for child sex crimes targeting students.
Perry Middle School ESL teacher Miguel Caban Mendez was charged on March 4 with two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact, two counts of improper relationship between educator and student, and one count of indecent assault.
Hundreds of Texas educators have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children in just the past few years, and thousands have been reported to the TEA for sexual misconduct.
