After years on the run in Peru, officials announced a former teacher in Houston and Klein independent school districts who is accused of sexually abusing at least seven children was taken into custody.
Wilfred Sequeiros, a 60-year-old former teacher and soccer coach, was arrested last Thursday according to officials at a press conference held Tuesday. Authorities say Sequeiros is alleged to have sexually and physically assaulted at least seven children—both boys and girls—between the ages of seven and ten from 2014 to 2019.
He is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14, three counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact, injury of a child under the age of 15, and three counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Sequeiros worked at HISD’s Northline Elementary School and Klein ISD’s Eiland Elementary School, where he served as both a teacher and a soccer coach. He was originally arrested in 2020 after victims began coming forward the year prior. Following those initial allegations, he was booked into the Harris County Jail in 2020 and again in 2021, but in both cases he was released on bond.
While out on bond, Sequeiros fled the country to Peru, where he is alleged to have remained until his most recent arrest.
According to the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office, capturing Sequeiros required a coordinated effort between multiple agencies, including INTERPOL, the DOJ Office of International Affairs, U.S. Marshals, the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, and the Peruvian government.
During the press conference, Deputy Marshal Josh Wright detailed how Sequeiros selected and manipulated his victims. “His preferred method of operations was to find moments when he was alone in the classroom with them,” said Wright. “And he’d take the child in the classroom closet and sexual[ly] assault him or her in various manners, threatening to harm the child if that said child ever told [anyone.]”
Sequeiros is being held in the Harris County Jail. He has currently been denied bond on some charges.
His next court date is December 1.
Klein ISD and Houston ISD have not yet made any statements, as the districts are off this week for Thanksgiving.
