A now-former teacher’s aide who worked with special needs students at Levelland Middle School was sentenced to 60 years in federal prison after he admitted to producing child sexual abuse material.

Camilo Reyes Castillo, 47, was arrested in June 2025 for recording videos of himself sexually abusing two boys, ages 9 and 12 years old, while they were staying at his house in Levelland.

Castillo then shared details of the abuse with other adults online.

In October 2025, Castillo pleaded guilty to seven counts of producing child pornography.

Castillo was sentenced on March 26 to two consecutive 30-year terms of federal imprisonment. His attorney has filed a notice of appeal.

State charges in the case against Castillo are also pending: two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of possessing between 100 and 500 visual depictions of CSAM.

Castillo was certified as an educational aide in May 2025.

Court records revealed that from March through May of 2025, while messaging with undercover agents, Castillo noted he had started working at a middle school in Levelland. “I work with students who need behavioral and emotional support (smiling emoji),” Castillo messaged.

Another Texas educator, now-former Sabinal ISD teacher/coach Kenneth Wayne Mulkey, was sentenced last week to 30 years in federal prison for attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.

Mulkey was caught in a Snapchat solicitation sting sending sexually explicit messages and photos to someone he believed to be a 14-year-old boy.

In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas educators have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other minors, and thousands have been reported to the state for sexual misconduct.
