Fort Worth Independent School District will pay former Superintendent Angélica Ramsey nearly $1 million total until she officially resigns as an employee on August 30, 2025.

Last week, Ramsey resigned from her position as superintendent, with trustees voting 8-1 to accept her resignation. Trustee Camille Rodriguez was the lone dissenting voice.

Ramsey’s time at Fort Worth ISD has been plagued with controversy, as many parents and teachers expressed their outrage with Ramsey’s leadership, accusing her of creating a toxic environment and failing Fort Worth students.

In newly obtained documents from Fort Worth ISD, the district states that in addition to paying Ramsey’s regular salary through August 30, 2025, it will pay Ramsey additional sums of $247,961 on or before October 1, 2024, and $247,961 on or before January 15, 2025. Ramsey’s annual salary is $335,000 plus stipends, which totals around $400,000.

On top of those payments of nearly $900,000, the district also agreed to pay Ramsey $48,539.83 on or before October 1, 2024, for unused vacation, sick, and personal leave, plus another $28,690—which represents an “amount previously earned and currently due to Ramsey for the Purchase of Service Credit and Supplemental Retirement Plan Contributions for the 2023-24 school year.” That amount will be paid in January 2025.

Broken down, in addition to her regular salary, and the compensation for unused leave and earned retirement plan contributions, Ramsey will receive $138,000 in FWISD Employer Paid 403(b)—the U.S. tax-advantaged retirement savings plan available for public education organizations—$46,000 for FWISD’s 457 retirement plan, $138,000 for FWISD’s 401(a) retirement plan, and $173,923 for the “remaining balance in lump sum deposit.”

The agreement also states that both the district and Ramsey agree not to sue or participate in any federal or state judicial or state administrative proceeding against one another. It also states, “The parties further agree that no party shall ever make any statements or references to the fact that they ‘won,’ ‘prevailed,’ or ‘were prevailing parties.’ Ramsey agrees she will not disparage the District, and the District agrees that it will not disparage Ramsey.”

While Ramsey’s last day as Superintendent was October 1, she will remain employed with Fort Worth ISD under the title of “Ambassador for Public Relations” but will be on leave until her final day with the district. When asked what duties under the title Ramsey will perform, the district did not respond.

The district plans to appoint an interim superintendent to serve in the role while they search for a replacement.
