U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents apprehended a Mexican national attempting to cross into Texas after discovering he was wanted for aggravated murder.

On Sunday, Border Patrol officers at the Donna International Bridge in Progreso, Texas, referred a vehicle passenger, identified as Raul Humberto Irigoyen Chavez, for a secondary inspection.

During the inspection, it was discovered that Chavez had an outstanding felony arrest warrant for aggravated murder by the Mexican government in connection with the murder of his wife. Officers turned Chavez over to Mexican authorities.

“This significant apprehension of a man wanted in Mexico for aggravated murder illustrates the international reach of law enforcement and the close working relationship we maintain with law enforcement partners from the Government of Mexico,” said Port Director Walter Weaver, Progreso/Donna Port of Entry. “We honor warrants from other countries, work closely with INTERPOL in these scenarios and this apprehension helps advance CBP’s border security mission.”

This isn’t the only instance where criminals have attempted or managed to enter the U.S.

In September, U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX23) confirmed that thousands of murderers and rapists have entered the country illegally. The data released showed more than 660,000 noncitizens on Immigration and Customs Enforcement national docket have criminal histories, including murder convictions, sexual assault convictions, and weapon offense convictions.

Additionally, within the past month, ICE Houston removed 25 illegal aliens convicted of child sex crimes during their time in the country.

Texas Public Policy Foundation Policy Director Melissa Ford Maldonado recently wrote that the Biden-Harris administration designed the crisis at the southern border.

“Let’s be clear: the crisis that has been taking place at our border since President Joe Biden took office isn’t accidental, it’s by design. Washington, D.C. and Mexico City are actively choosing to keep our border unsecured,” wrote Maldonado. “For the Biden-Harris administration, this ongoing crisis is a strategic choice; it sees the open border as politically advantageous, ignoring the suffering, crime, and economic impact that Texans and communities beyond our border bear.”

“Some of their motives are ideological, rooted in outdated and detached thinking that ignores the reality of cartel-driven chaos and crime. Some motives are financial—from profits in cross-border trade to sources of cheap labor. And some, we have to admit, reflect an underlying hostility toward the very idea of protecting American citizens,” she added.

With President Donald Trump’s electoral victory over Vice President Kamala Harris yesterday, specialists are predicting a rush at the southwest border as migrants attempt to enter the country before Trump’s inauguration.
