A former DeSoto High School track star has been hired for the Sam Houston State University coaching staff.

Paetyn Revell, who won two silver medals in the triple jump at the Texas State Championship before going on to Texas Tech, will be an assistant coach for the Bearkats, the school’s website recently announced.

Revell put together a strong athletic career at Texas Tech, earning All-American honorable mention following the 2015 outdoor season. During that campaign, she was in the top 20 in the triple jump at the  national meet. She also was a three-time All-Big 12 Conference pick. She also set the triple jump record at Texas Tech, where last season she was a volunteer coach.

Revell was a key part of three state championships earned by DeSoto and was ranked as one of the 15 best triple jumpers nationally in her last two years there, in addition to earning three district and region titles.
