Josh Adkins made quite the first impression on New Mexico State football fans this season.

The 6-foot-2, 218-pound redshirt freshman quarterback completed 57 percent of his passes for 2,563 yards and 13 touchdowns, including seven games of at least 250 yards through the air, according to ESPN

It was almost like being back at Smithson Valley High for Adkins, who the NM State school website reports as a three-year starter at the school passed for 6,831 yards and 66 touchdowns, including a single-season record 2,985 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior.

Adkins best game for the Aggies came during a Week 4 49-41 win over Liberty University when he passed for 402 yards and four scores while completing 67 percent of his throws.

A finance major at NM State, Adkins was tabbed 2016 San Antonio Express-News Areas Offensive Player of the Year and also earned 2016 Texas District 27-6A Offensive Player of the Year honors.
