Dr. Jerry R. Strawser has taken over as the interim provost at Texas A&M University. Strawser assumed the position on September 1.
The provost is the chief academic officer.
Strawser previously served as an accounting professor at the Mays Business School and as the dean of Mays in the early 2000’s, which was interrupted by a previous stint as interim provost.
Strawser was TAMU’s chief financial officer from 2014-2021.
Alan Sams, the previous provost, will return to a position in the Department of Poultry Science.
TAMU President Susan Ballabina stated in June that Texas A&M “will consider both internal and external candidates, with the goal of having our next Provost in place by January as we start the spring 2027 semester.”
Under Senate Bill 37, which state lawmakers passed in 2025, the Texas A&M System Board of Regents must approve provost hires. The board only has one regular meeting scheduled before January but can opt to call a special meeting.
Regents held a special meeting on August 27, where they unanimously approved Strawser’s interim hire.
Texas A&M–College Station is a component of the Texas A&M University system. The Texas A&M System is overseen by a Board of Regents appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Texas Senate. Robert Albritton of Fort Worth is the current board chair.
