Challenger Katrina Pierson beat four-term State Rep. Justin Holland in Tuesday’s Republican primary runoff for Texas House District 33.

Pierson’s win continues a trend that began in the March 5 primary of challengers defeating incumbents who opposed Gov. Greg Abbott’s school choice plan or voted to impeach Attorney General Paxton.

Holland did both.

He also voted with Democrats to approve gun control legislation.

Pierson is best known as a national spokeswoman for then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. She promoted his policies on border security, gun rights, election integrity, and other issues.

Along with more than a dozen local officials within the district, she was endorsed by Abbott, Paxton, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.

Holland, a Heath realtor, has represented the district since 2017.

House District 33 covers Rockwall County and a small portion of southern Collin County.

No Democrat candidate ran for HD 33, so Pierson will automatically win the November General Election and take office in January 2025.
