Yes, public schools should be mandated to teach math. And safety mandates for local schools make sense. But starting this year, legislators are making schools teach a parenting class to 9th graders. The Fort Worth Star Telegram wrote about the new state mandates this week.

“This will help prepare our future parents so they will know how to help each other and raise a child together even if a relationship doesn’t work out,” said O.J. Kemp, Arlington’s assistant athletic director for health and physical education.
