The now-deceased man accused of shooting a Texas police officer allegedly entered the country illegally at Eagle Pass.

Federal and law enforcement officers have said that Jorge Chacon-Gutierrez, 25, is an illegal alien originating from Venezuela. Although caught by Border Patrol in Eagle Pass in November, he was administered a notice to appear in court and released into the country.

On Sunday, Chacon-Gutierrez fired at officers in San Antonio who entered his second-story apartment in response to a family violence assault call. Chacon-Gutierrez, lying on a bed and holding a rifle, fired shots at the officers—leaving one of them critically injured. Law enforcement returned fire before retreating.

Although SWAT teams were deployed to compel Chacon-Gutierrez to surrender, it was found that he was already deceased. It is unclear whether he died by suicide or the officers’ returning fire.

“Per sources, the SAPD officer was shot multiple times, had surgery this morning, and she is expected to survive. I’ve reached out to ICE for formal comment. More to come when I get it,” Fox News Correspondent Bill Melugin posted Sunday.

According to Melugin, the Venezuelan illegal alien’s court date was set for April of 2026.

Texas Scorecard has monitored the trend of violent illegal aliens originating from Venezuela and entering the country through the Texas-Mexico border.

Back in the summer, for example, 19-year-old Bernardo Castro Mata from Venezuela illegally entered the country through Texas’ southern border.

In Queens, New York, he allegedly shot two NYPD officers after they attempted to pull him over for riding his scooter down a one-way street in East Elmhurst. One officer was struck in the chest by a bullet, and the other in his leg.

Another Venezuelan man named Adelvis Rodriguez-Carmona, age 29, belonged to a violent gang called Tren de Aragua. He was arrested on February 24 for being tied to a drive-by shooting, but was first encountered by the U.S. Border Patrol in Eagle Pass in July of 2022.
