A second student at another taxpayer-subsidized university in Texas has been expelled for mocking conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
In a recording posted by activists CJ Pearson and Libs of TikTok, the student can be seen slapping the side of his neck and saying, “Charlie Kirk got hit in the neck, b—-.”
He then pantomimes Kirk’s death, climbs atop a statue, says, “Hi, my name is Charlie Kirk,” and repeats the performance.
Libs of TikTok posted on X: “DISGUSTING. At a @txst Charlie Kirk memorial event, a student MOCKS Charlie’s ass*ssination, curses, and spits at people honoring his memory.”
Within an hour, Gov. Greg Abbott stated on social media, “This conduct is not accepted at our schools.”
“Expel this student immediately,” he continued. “Mocking assassination must have consequences.”
Shortly thereafter, Texas State University President Kelly Damphousse announced the school was investigating this incident.
By the end of the day, the student was no longer enrolled at Texas State.
“That student is now expelled,” Abbott confirmed.
While federal law prevents Texas State from commenting on “individual student conduct matters,” Damphousse stated, “I will not tolerate behavior that mocks, trivializes, or promotes violence on our campuses.”
He released a separate letter to the Texas State community.
“I am writing this separate email to you because I know that this incident (and the response to it) has shaken the Texas State community (including faculty, staff, students, alumni, community members, and supporters),” Damphousse wrote.
“Unfortunately, some people are suggesting that the individual’s actions represent the beliefs of TXST students in general or those of specific student organizations,” he continued. “The actions of one person do not reflect our entire community or the individuals in it.”
This is the second incident at a Texas university involving student misconduct captured in a viral video since Kirk’s assassination.
Texas Tech had previously expelled a student who chanted vulgarities and assaulted bystanders outside a vigil for Kirk.
Texas State University is a component of the Texas State University System, overseen by a Board of Regents appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Texas Senate.
