If earning Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week is an indication, then sophomore Erin Smith hit her stride with the Abilene Christian University women’s soccer team.
The recognition comes just two games into this season, as ACUSports.com reports, but those two victories (against New Mexico State and UTEP) marked the first time in six seasons the Wildcats had back-to-back season-opening wins.
As a freshman for the Wildcats, Smith started in 16 games and swiftly became the team’s primary goalie, as the ACU roster says. Highlights include making 66 saves against 31 goals allowed, plus achieving the metric of 1.80 goals-against average in a 7-8-2 inaugural season.
Smith graduated from Wichita Falls High School, where she served on the bi-district championship-winning team and stopped 24 shots as a junior. Academically ranked 13th overall as a graduating senior, her other accolades include Second Team All-State, All-District honorable mention twice and academic letter recipient twice.
