With early voting already underway ahead of Tuesday’s Primary Election, a new University of Texas/Texas Politics Project poll suggests several Republican contests may be tightening in the final days before voters head to the polls.

The survey, conducted Feb. 2–16, finds the Republican attorney general primary has narrowed into a near tie between U.S. Rep. Chip Roy and State Sen. Mayes Middleton.

Roy leads with 40 percent support among likely Republican primary voters, while Middleton follows closely at 38 percent. State Sen. Joan Huffman received 9 percent and former DOJ official Aaron Reitz 5 percent.

The results suggest the race is likely heading toward a runoff, with neither leading candidate currently positioned to secure a majority outright.

The Republican U.S. Senate primary also remains highly competitive. Attorney General Ken Paxton leads with 36 percent support, followed closely by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn at 34 percent and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt at 26 percent.

Meanwhile, the poll shows little drama in the Republican gubernatorial primary, with Gov. Greg Abbott commanding 91 percent support.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick similarly dominates his primary field with 87 percent backing.

On the Democrat side, State Rep. Gina Hinojosa leads the gubernatorial primary with 76 percent support.

In the Democrat U.S. Senate primary, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett leads with 56 percent support, followed by State Rep. James Talarico at 44 percent.

In the Democrat attorney general contest, Joe Jaworski leads with 52 percent, followed by State Sen. Nathan Johnson at 28 percent and Tony Box at 10 percent.

Early voting in the March primaries is already underway, with Election Day set for Tuesday, March 3.
