Two years ago, State Rep. John Zerwas was a relentless zealot for imposing ObamaCare on Texas. Conspiring with House Democrats, the Simonton Republican used parliamentary tricks and floor confusion to sneak an amendment into the budget that would have pulled Texas deeper into the clutches of federalized health care.

John Zerwas… the pro-ObamaCare Republican from Fort Bend County

Realizing what he had done, conservatives in the House turned back his effort and Zerwas laid low.

Last year, Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, and Ken Paxton ran statewide races making continued opposition to ObamaCare in Texas hallmarks of their campaigns. They won with more than 60 percent of the statewide general election vote.

Despite obvious opposition by Texans, halfway through this current legislative session Zerwas is already back at it.

A close advisor to House Speaker Joe Straus, Zerwas is again working with Democrats to push Texas into ObamaCare. And not just any Democrats – the Texas Organizing Project. TOP is radical political group devoted to pushing Barack Obama’s liberal agenda in the states:

Given the shenanigans they played last session, one can only assume Zerwas and Straus will again seek to subvert the expressed wishes of Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick, and the overwhelming majority of voters by expanding Medicaid to entangle Texas in ObamaCare.

State Sen. Charles Schwertner recently described Medicaid expansion as “simply not worth discussing.”

Texans will need their legislators to closely watch Zerwas and the other ObamaCare cheerleaders throughout the session.
