Child sexual predators continue to be found in Texas schools in alarming numbers.

In 2023 and again in 2024, Texas Scorecard highlighted 100 cases of school employees—teachers, coaches, administrators, bus drivers—accused of sexual misconduct with students and other children.

In 2025, the epidemic of sex abuse in schools not only continued but appeared to be escalating, with multiple suspects exposed each week.

Charges ranged from sexually assaulting students to grooming children for sex using social media to creating child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Suspects were also charged with “improper relationship between educator and student,” a crime that includes sexual contact or sexually explicit communication with a student of any age. The offense is a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison.

The internet and social media played a role in many cases. Too often, the crimes occurred at school, yet no adults noticed.

Some suspects were arrested and charged, while others were allowed to quietly resign.

Bad apples” represent a tiny fraction of the state’s 400,000 teachers and professional staff members, yet the system is still failing to protect children from sexual predators who seek access to victims within our schools.

Hundreds are reported each year to the Texas Education Agency. Many of the complaints are dismissed after a cursory review. Those deemed to warrant a formal investigation are added to a growing backlog.

Legislation enacted in 2025 strengthens reporting requirements for suspected abuse by school employees and allows targeted students to sue their abusers—and the school districts that employed them, if the district was grossly negligent, reckless, or engaged in intentional misconduct.

This year, Texas Scorecard covered more than 200 stories of educator sex crime allegations, arrests, sentencings, and civil lawsuits.
